RECORD BREAKING PROJECTION
ONTO THE NEW PEKING CCTW TOWER
On the occasion of the next Olympics, on May 30-31st Paolo Buroni will create the largest multivision ever attempted on a skyscraper in Peking.
The architectural multiprojection event on the 234 m high Peking CCTV Tower is a highly creative, technical and innovative challenge. Visual designer Paolo Buroni and Stark have accepted this new challenge which requires a dynamic and pioneering spirit. The project has been created for Nike and it is among the most complex and demanding ever performed. In fact, this will be the most extensive multiprojection ever realized in the world on a skyscraper with such large glass surfaces. The technical difficulties in achieving such a project in the urban centre of Peking represent a technical and artistic feat. A real invasion with a projection of images onto the architecture of one of the most modern and spectacular skyscrapers in the world, in a hostile environment flooded by hundreds of public lights and by the parasitic glare of the urban night.
“Besides the difficulties mentioned above, we face the complicated positioning of the projection technologies; their distances from the building, which is more than 230 m high, vary between 40 and 200 m. The projection power required to win this challenge is enormous and calls for very complicated technical solutions.
A curious note: the Chinese government asked if they could take advantage of this extraordinary event to project some institutional images for Olympic and governmental communications.
Sartoria Comunicazione created and promoted this event and its support was fundamental in overcoming all of the logistic and bureaucratic obstacles tied to such a complex operation.
Gala Event at the Italian Embassy in Peking
Right after this event, there will be another event bearing the multivision trademark. The Italian ambassador in Peking has invited Paolo Buroni to the traditional Gala Event, held to celebrate June 2nd, the Italian “Festa della Repubblica” holiday. During the reception, the 800 guests will be treated to a full immersion multivision experience on Italian artwork, especially created for this occasion by Paolo Buroni, to be projected onto the walls facing the Diplomatic building garden. More than 50 ambassadors and the most important economical and political authorities of Peking will be present.
